Hammock and camping mosquito nets

Sleeping off the ground means a different kind of net. A hammock has its own ridgeline to hang from; a tent or a camp mat has nothing at all. Mosticare makes one net for each, so the barrier fits the way you already sleep outdoors.

For the hammock

The Amaca integrates with a hammock's own ridgeline. The net drapes over the ridge cord with a long-axis channel, tensions the length of the hammock, and tucks beneath your back, so you slide into an enclosed mesh cocoon suspended from the same two anchors as the hammock.

Amaca Uno is 240 × 100 cm and packs to 220 g for a solo hammock; Amaca Due is 240 × 140 cm and packs to 355 g for wider two-person hammocks. It is a permethrin-coated net, so it suits long nights in dengue and malaria country.

For the tent and the camp mat

The Igloo is a freestanding pop-up tent made entirely of mesh. Flexible hoops sewn into the fabric spring it open into a dome, and a sewn-in floor and a full-length zip door seal it on every side, so there is no open hem for anything to find.

It comes in three sizes: Igloo Uno at 180 × 100 × 100 cm for one adult, Igloo Due at 200 × 150 × 100 cm for two, and Igloo Bambino at 140 × 90 × 90 cm for a baby's outdoor nap. The Igloo is left uncoated, a pure barrier with nothing on the mesh to breathe overnight.

Coated or uncoated

The Amaca is coated with permethrin, bound into the fibre during manufacture. The Igloo is deliberately uncoated because you are sealed inside it for hours at a time; its protection is the fineness of the weave alone.

Both use the same 156-count polyester mesh, so the barrier is comparable; the difference is whether the surface carries a coating or relies on the weave.

Choose the coated hammock net for sleep in vector country. Choose the uncoated tent when you want nothing on the mesh, and keep it sealed and intact.

Pitch and care

Run a ridgeline above the hammock and tuck the Amaca hem under the body along its length. Pitch the Igloo, get in and close the zip the whole way; an open zip is an open door.

Inspect the mesh for snags before each trip. The uncoated Igloo can be washed gently; never wash the coated Amaca, and replace it when its three-year effective life ends.
