Before you choose

The short guidance, one tap per note.

The coated version
  • WHO guidance

The World Health Organization lists insecticide-treated nets among the core tools for preventing malaria. The coated version of this net carries that permethrin, bound into the fibre.

    WHO malaria factsheet
  • How it works

The permethrin bound into a coated net repels and disables the mosquitoes that settle on it, a working layer that an uncoated mesh cannot add.

    WHO malaria programme
  • Long-lasting

In a coated net the permethrin is fixed into the fibre during manufacture, so it stays through years of normal use rather than washing away with the first clean.

Choosing your model
  • The short answer

Every model is the same idea in a different shape: mesh between you and the mosquito. Pick the shape first, then the size.

  • Why a barrier

A mesh barrier does not fade by morning and cannot miss a patch of skin. It stands between you and the mosquito for as long as it hangs, with nothing on your skin.

    WHO malaria factsheet
  • Sprays, plainly

DEET and picaridin work, and we say so. But a spray is a supplement with a clock on it: hours of cover, then nothing, and never reapplied in your sleep. A mesh does not ask you to remember it.

The uncoated version

This is the same Mosticare mesh with no coating on the fibre, a pure physical barrier you can wash. For an added active layer against mosquitoes, switch to the coated mesh version above.

Late-summer afternoons in a farmhouse in the Luberon, a stone villa in Tuscany, a converted masseria in Puglia, wooden beams overhead, linen sheets on the bed, the window open to the garden. The one thing a European countryside bedroom no longer has, and increasingly needs, is a serious defence against the Asian tiger mosquito. The Mosticare Rondo is a conical mosquito net designed for exactly that room: a single-point ceiling canopy that drops into a clean 360° circle around the bed, turning eight hours of sleep into a certified physical barrier. No aerosol sprays. No plug-in diffusers. No smouldering coils. No airborne chemistry in the air a household breathes.

What this net is, exactly

The Mosticare Rondo is a circular "princess-style" canopy built around a reinforced top ring that suspends from a single ceiling hook above the centre of the bed. From the ring, the mesh flares outward into a full conical enclosure that fully contains the mattress and allows free airflow through the weave.

The mesh itself is knitted from 75-denier polyester at a 156-count density (25 holes per cm²), the structural specification used across the WHO long-lasting-net category. The fibre is factory-coated with permethrin at 9 g/kg (0.9% w/w), a WHO-recommended pyrethroid bound into the yarn during manufacture rather than sprayed onto the surface, so the coating stays locked into the fibre, does not leach meaningfully onto skin, and does not release into the air of the room.

The Rondo is WHO-standard as a long-lasting insecticidal net and authorized for European Union market release under the EU Biocidal Products Regulation. Colour: soft off-white. Two sizes are available as variants of the same product: Rondo Uno for single beds and Rondo Due for queen beds. Every Rondo ships with the canopy, a recycled-cotton carry sachet, a quick-start deployment card, a Mosticare three-year lifecycle card, and an invitation to the Mosticare community.

Why a physical barrier is the right approach

For decades, the mosquito-protection aisle has offered one answer in European homes: chemistry inside the room. Aerosol sprays, scented candles, plug-in diffusers, coil-burners. Household products that, at best, fail to reliably stop the mosquito and, at worst, release active chemistry into the air of a bedroom for hours on end. The EU Biocidal Products Regulation is steadily tightening what chemistry can sit next to a sleeping person, and for good reason.

A bed canopy is the clean alternative. It is a physical barrier that stops the mosquito at the mesh and puts no chemistry into the air you breathe. The permethrin coating reinforces that barrier at the point of contact, bound into the yarn at a deliberately minimal dose, not diffused through the room, so the barrier does its job while the air stays chemistry-free.

Who it's for

The Rondo is for European households in tiger-mosquito territory, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Greece, southern Germany, southern Austria, who want a serious bedroom defence that reads as architecture, not as camping gear. The single-point ceiling suspension suits traditional rooms with exposed beams, high ceilings, and existing ceiling hooks or beam anchors: farmhouses, country homes, converted barns, holiday villas, and second homes along the Mediterranean coast.

Rondo Uno is sized for a single bed and is the right fit for a child's room, a guest bedroom, a studio flat, or a single sleeper in a countryside master bedroom. Rondo Due is sized for a European queen bed and is the right fit for couples, primary bedrooms, and holiday-rental beds.

If you prefer a rectangular parallelepipedic silhouette that tensions from four corners rather than a single-point conical drop, the Mosticare Cubo Uno (single) or Cubo Due (double) are the better fit. If you're heading into a malaria-endemic region, the Mosticare Traccia travel wedge or Domo Pop freestanding dome are purpose-built for the road.

How to use it well

The Rondo is designed to install in minutes from a single ceiling point and look after itself for three years of normal use.

  • Mount a single ceiling hook or beam anchor directly above the centre of the bed; suspend the reinforced top ring and let the canopy drop naturally into its circular form.
  • Distribute the hem evenly around the bed, tucking fully under the mattress or letting it puddle-train to the floor around the frame.
  • Inspect the mesh visually at the start of each summer season; repair small damage with the Mosticare Net Repair Kit.
  • Don't wash it, by design. In normal use the mesh doesn't get dirty, it just ages. Washing strips permethrin out of the fibre and into wastewater, which harms aquatic life and weakens the protection you bought. When the net reaches the end of its protective life, replace it rather than washing it.
  • Pack down into the recycled-cotton sachet for travel or off-season storage, both Uno and Due compress small enough to stow in a weekend bag.
  • Expect a three-year effective protection lifecycle under normal household use, and longer with careful handling.
Certifications and testing

Every claim on this page is traceable to a standard or an independent test.

  • No coating, the uncoated version carries no permethrin and no biocide. It is not a coated article, so no biocidal-product authorization applies, by design.
  • 156-count mesh / 25 holes per cm², the structural mesh density used across the WHO long-lasting-net category for mosquito bite prevention.
  • Washable, gently, there is no permethrin to wash out. Rinse and air-dry in shade, and repair snags with the Mosticare Net Repair Kit.
Frequently asked questions

Before you decide.

Should I choose Rondo Uno or Rondo Due?
Match the net to the bed. Rondo Uno is sized for a European standard single mattress and is the right pick for a child's bed, a single guest bed, or a single-sleeper room. Rondo Due is sized for a European queen mattress and is the right pick for couples and primary bedrooms. Both share the same mesh, coating, three-year lifecycle, and in-the-box contents; only the diameter, height, and packed weight differ.
Is the Rondo safe to sleep under every night?
Yes. The permethrin is incorporated into the polyester yarn during manufacture rather than applied as a surface spray, so it does not release into the air of the room and skin contact is minimal. World Health Organization guidance supports pyrethroid-coated nets for household use, including by children over three months, pregnant women, and elders, in regions with mosquito-borne-disease risk.
Does the permethrin smell, stain, or transfer onto the bedding?
No. The fibre is engineered so the active ingredient stays bound to the yarn. There is no detectable odour, no transfer onto sheets or skin, and no residue on the mattress. The room stays the way you set it.
What kind of ceiling do I need?
A single fixing point directly above the centre of the bed is enough. Wooden beams, plasterboard with a beam anchor, concrete with a sleeve anchor, or an existing hook from a lamp or canopy all work. The top ring's reinforced construction distributes the load evenly.
Will the Rondo fit my bed?
Rondo Uno's 850 cm bottom circumference fits cleanly around a 90 × 200 cm single mattress with full hem tuck-in. Rondo Due's 1050 cm bottom circumference fits cleanly around a standard European queen mattress (up to approximately 160 × 200 cm) with full hem tuck-in. The 225 cm (Uno) and 250 cm (Due) heights suit rooms with 2.4-metre-plus ceilings, typical of European farmhouses, country homes, and holiday rentals.

Mosticare exists to protect people from the world's deadliest animal without poisoning the room in which they sleep. The Rondo is a quiet, certified way to do that over the beds that matter, at home, in the countryside, in the villa, or anywhere the mosquito has reached you first. Hang one above the bed and make the decision once.
