Made-to-measure insect screens for doorways: a rigid aluminium frame carrying sag-free fibreglass mesh that lets the real door stand open to the night air while people, pets, and the breeze pass through and the mosquitoes stay out. Two formats, the hinged, self-closing Porta Battente for single doorways, and the made-to-measure sliding Porta Scorrevole that runs on its own track alongside a patio or balcony door. Before you choose

The short guidance, one tap per note.

Choosing your model
  • The short answer

Every model is the same idea in a different shape: mesh between you and the mosquito. Pick the shape first, then the size.

  • Why a barrier

A mesh barrier does not fade by morning and cannot miss a patch of skin. It stands between you and the mosquito for as long as it hangs, with nothing on your skin.

  • Sprays, plainly

DEET and picaridin work, and we say so. But a spray is a supplement with a clock on it: hours of cover, then nothing, and never reapplied in your sleep. A mesh does not ask you to remember it.

A bed net protects the hours of sleep; a head net protects the body outdoors. The Mosticare Porta protects the threshold: the open doorway through which the warm evening, the breeze, and every mosquito in the garden would otherwise pour into the house. It is a door-shaped insect screen, a rigid aluminium frame carrying fine fibreglass mesh, that lets the real door stand wide open while the screen holds the line. Two formats cover the two kinds of European doorway: the hinged, self-closing Porta Battente for a single door opening, and the sliding Porta Scorrevole, cut to measure for the patio, balcony, and terrace doors that slide. Each is built to your opening, and each is a pure physical barrier with zero coating.

What it is, exactly

The Porta Battente is a reinforced hinged screen door that hangs in a doorway like a second, lighter door. A rigid aluminium frame with a central reinforcement rail keeps fibreglass mesh sag-free across the full span of the opening, and a self-closing sprung hinge with a magnetic catch means it never stands open behind you. It is double-reinforced for the daily traffic of a real home, the format American houses have trusted for a century, rebuilt to the Mosticare standard, with an optional reinforced kick or pet panel at the base for the high-wear zone.

The Porta Scorrevole is a made-to-measure sliding screen for patio, balcony, and terrace doors. A slim, colour-matched aluminium screen runs on its own track alongside the existing sliding glass door, pulling across to seal the opening and gliding softly back to vanish into the reveal when it is not needed. Because no two sliding doors are alike, it is built to the exact width and height of the opening and adjusts to the customer's track.

Both formats carry the same fibreglass insect-screen mesh: UV-stable, sag-free across a full door span, and dense enough to stop mosquitoes. Both come in white, anthracite, or brown to match the doorway, and both are designed and made in Europe.

Why these carry zero chemicals

Every Mosticare bed and travel sleep net is factory-coated with permethrin, bound into the fibre, because it sits at the edge of where you sleep. The Porta screens are deliberately different. A door screen is structural, not personal, it is aluminium and fibreglass spanning a doorway, touched by hands and brushed by pets all day, so it carries no coating at all.

The barrier is purely geometric: a mesh fine enough that the mosquito cannot pass, with nothing on it to breathe, touch, or eat. No permethrin, no biocidal coating, no spray that wears off and has to be reapplied. That also means there is no insecticide to deplete: the screen's working life is the life of its aluminium frame and its UV-stable mesh, not a chemical clock counting down. It simply keeps the mosquitoes on the far side of an open door, season after season.

Which format is yours

Choose by how your door opens. The Porta Battente is for a hinged single doorway, a back door, a side door, the door to the garden, where you want a self-closing screen that swings shut behind you on its own. The Porta Scorrevole is for a sliding glass door onto a patio, balcony, or terrace, where the screen needs to run flat on its own track rather than swing.

Both are made to measure. The Battente comes in standard EU single-door sizes as instant presets, or cut to a custom opening; the Scorrevole is always built bespoke to the patio-door opening and adjusted to your existing track. For windows rather than doors, the Mosticare Apertura range covers the same idea in magnetic and roller formats; the Porta is the doorway specialist.

How to order and fit it

Because every doorway is different, the Porta is sold made-to-measure: you send us the opening dimensions and we build the screen to fit, rather than shipping a fixed-size box from a shelf.

  • Measure the opening. Take the clear width and height of the doorway (for the Scorrevole, the patio-door opening and the existing track); our measurement guide walks you through it.
  • Request a quote. Send the dimensions through the website for a price and quotation built to your opening, the price shown is a provisional anchor until your measurements are in.
  • Choose the format and colour. Hinged Battente or sliding Scorrevole, in white, anthracite, or brown, with the optional reinforced kick / pet panel on the Battente.
  • Fit it with the included guide. The Battente hangs on its self-closing hinges with the supplied door hardware; the Scorrevole mounts on its track with the adjustment fittings. Both ship with a fitting guide.
  • Keep the seal clean. Wipe the mesh and frame down and let them air-dry; a clean track and a fully closed screen are what keep the mosquitoes out. There is no coating to refresh, only the frame and mesh to look after.
Certifications and testing

Every claim on this page is traceable to a standard or an independent test.

  • No coating, the Porta is a pure physical barrier. It carries no permethrin and no biocide and is not a coated article, so no biocidal-product authorization applies, by design, because a door screen is structural and handled all day long.
  • Uncoated fibreglass insect-screen mesh on a rigid aluminium frame, a purely geometric barrier dense enough to stop mosquitoes.
  • Designed and made in Europe, built to measure for the doorway and the climate-shifted European summer.
  • Long-life by construction, durable aluminium and UV-stable mesh with no insecticide to wear off or reapply.
Frequently asked questions

Before you decide.

Are these screens coated with insecticide?
No, and that is by design. The Porta screens are pure physical barriers: an aluminium frame carrying fine fibreglass mesh, with no permethrin and no biocidal coating of any kind. A door screen is structural and handled all day, so it carries no chemicals at all. Our bed and travel sleep nets, which sit at the edge of sleep, are permethrin-coated; the Porta door screens, like the Terrazza patio enclosure and the Volto head net, are not.
What is the difference between the Battente and the Scorrevole?
The Porta Battente is a hinged screen door that swings and self-closes behind you, for a single doorway. The Porta Scorrevole is a sliding screen that runs flat on its own track alongside a patio or balcony glass door. Choose by how your door opens: swinging doors take the Battente, sliding doors take the Scorrevole.
How do I order a screen to fit my door?
Send us your opening dimensions through the website and we build the screen to measure. The Battente is available in standard EU single-door sizes as presets or cut to a custom opening; the Scorrevole is always made bespoke to the patio-door opening and adjusted to your existing track. The prices shown are provisional anchors, you receive a firm quotation once your measurements are in.
Does the hinged door really close on its own?
Yes. The Porta Battente hangs on a self-closing sprung hinge with a magnetic catch, so it swings shut and latches behind you rather than standing open. A central reinforcement rail keeps the mesh sag-free across the full span, and it is double-reinforced for the daily traffic of a real home, with an optional reinforced kick or pet panel at the base.
How long will it last, and is there anything to replace?
There is no insecticide to deplete, so nothing wears out on a chemical clock. The Porta is durable aluminium and UV-stable fibreglass mesh, built for a long life across many seasons; you simply keep the frame and mesh clean. That is the advantage of an uncoated physical barrier over a coated one, the screen's life is the life of its materials.

Mosticare exists to protect people from the world's deadliest animal without poisoning the spaces they live in. The Porta does it at the threshold, letting the door stand open to the European summer evening while the mosquitoes stay firmly outside.
