What the tiger mosquito actually does
Aedes albopictus is not a louder version of the European common mosquito. It is a different operating profile, and the European public-health record is now clear on what that profile means.
Unlike Culex pipiens, the Asian tiger is most active at dawn and dusk and bites readily through the day, including during outdoor meals and afternoon naps.
It is a competent vector for dengue, chikungunya, Zika, and West Nile virus, all four pathogens have produced confirmed autochthonous European transmission events since 2010.
ECDC mapping documents established populations in 16 EU/EEA countries and confirms range expansion at roughly 20 km per year, including new urban populations in Vienna, Frankfurt, and parts of southern Germany.
It breeds in any container holding more than a thimble of standing water, saucers, gutters, drains, kerb-pooled rainwater. Suburban and city environments are its preferred habitat.

Honest answers
Is permethrin safe to sleep under?
WHO guidance supports permethrin-coated nets for household use, including children over three months, pregnant women, and elders. The active ingredient is bound into the polyester yarn during manufacture rather than sprayed onto the surface, so it does not release into the room air and skin transfer is minimal.
Why a net rather than a spray, plug-in, or coil?
Sprays, plug-ins, and coils put active chemistry into the air of the room you sleep in, for hours. A correctly hung net is a physical barrier that stops the mosquito at the mesh and leaves the room's air alone. The EU Biocidal Products Regulation has been steadily tightening what chemistry can sit next to a sleeping person; a physical barrier is the durable answer.
How long does a Mosticare net last?
Three years of effective protection under normal household use. The WHO long-lasting-net specification is the reference; we follow it, and because the nets are designed not to be washed, we publish seasonal inspection and end-of-life guidance with every net.

Mosticare ships from an EU warehouse to all 27 EU + EEA countries. Standard EU delivery is 3-5 working days; the 14-day cooling-off period applies under EU Directive 2011/83.
